Equity in the Classroom workshop Friday
WAICU is working together with the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) and the UW system on the next step in Wisconsin’s higher education attainment goal, 60 Forward, which is funded by a grant from the Lumina Foundation. Wisconsin’s goal is to achieve a higher education attainment rate of 60 percent by 2027.
Join instructors from across higher education institutions in Wisconsin to learn about the role of faculty in the 60 Forward initiative and gain tools and strategies to move the needle on equity in the classroom.
The Equity in the Classroom workshop will be held from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6, 2019, and faculty and instructors from WAICU, WTCS, and UW System are invited to attend at any of the following locations at no cost:
- Madison College
- Northcentral Technical College
- St. Norbert College
- UW-Eau Claire
Keynote speakers will be broadcast from the Madison College site to the regional locations around the state. On-site workshop sessions will be held live at each regional site.
The nationally recognized keynote speakers are:
- Dr. Gloria Ladson-Billings, equity expert
- RunningHorse Livingston, educator and consultant
According to the Lumina Foundation: “Even as the nation makes progress, educational attainment remains unequal across racial and ethnic groups. In our society, where real opportunity depends on learning beyond high school, these persistent inequities harm us all as Americans. Education beyond high school is key to increasing economic opportunity and social mobility. That’s why we know that, to achieve the 60 percent goal, we must close gaps by race, ethnicity, income, and immigration status.”
