A visual artist with a multimedia practice in film, video, sound, and installation, Professor Jojin Van Winkle centers her research around the practice of listening, focusing on resilience, and environmental stewardship. Her current work “The Destruction Project” is a multimedia, documentary-based project; it examines the roles of destruction in rural areas of the United States.

Join us for “Behind the Scenes of the Destruction Project” by Prof. Van Winkle from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 30 in Clausen Center 107.

Through photographs, video, sound, and interviews, she looks at ways destruction intersects with play, violence, anger, choice, and change, impacting everyday existence. This lecture reveals her behind-the-scenes processes within one chapter of the overall installation: destruction as entertainment and spectacle.

In addition, Prof. Van Winkle will also share experiences from her recent one-month artist residency at the Arteles Creative Center in Hämeenkyrö, Finland.

The Destruction Project will open at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art in October 2020.
