The Religion Department and the Communications and Digital Media Department continues their film series that explores the landscape of devotional cinema, and examines concepts of faith and culture worldwide. This fall’s second and final offering is director Shubashesh Bhutiani’s “Hotel Salvation,” which will be viewed at 4:15 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15 in the Neimann Media Theater.

The film is centered around a middle-aged male protagonist, whose predictable family life is disrupted after his father moves to Benares to await his death in the holy city (which Hindus believe grants final liberation of the soul). Despite this somber-sounding premise, the film’s primary messages focus on life rather than death and on the gentle wisdom of the Hotel Salvation’s residents.

The films chosen for this series have been drawn from major world religions in an attempt to understand our individual and shared human experiences.

Snacks will be provided courtesy of the Religion Department.
