A concert tour of the wind band from Portugal’s Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa (Lisbon College of Music) will include a stop at Carthage. The concert will begin at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, in A. F. Siebert Chapel.

The ESML group is one of the ensembles selected for the highly prestigious honor of performing at the Midwest Clinic in Chicago, and they will continue to that event after playing in Kenosha. Prior to coming to Carthage, the band will perform another formal concert at the University of Illinois–Champaign/Urbana.

View their tour information.

The program will be similar to that given at the Midwest Clinic in Chicago and includes a work co-commissioned by ESML, Carthage, and several other institutions—”Winter Blossom,” by Pulitzer Prize winning composer Steven Stucky. Other selections include music by Portuguese composers Joaquim Gomes and Carlos Caires, and Americans Samuel Barber and Steve Bryant.

Concert is free and open to the public.
