A return home for new Carthage CFO
Tina Schmitz ’00 takes the helm of Finance and Administrative Services
Carthage has hired Tina M. Schmitz, an alumna from the Class of 2000, as its vice president for finance and administration and chief financial officer. She joined the staff in December, bringing to the College more than 25 years of experience in accounting, finance, and administration.
Previously, Ms. Schmitz held CFO positions at United Communications Corporation (where she was also chief administrative officer), the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee (as well as vice president of finance), the Kenosha Area Business Alliance, and the Kenosha Unified School District. She also worked as director of budgets and internal audit at Gateway Technical College while teaching accounting as an adjunct instructor.
“I am simply thrilled that Tina Schmitz has joined the Carthage leadership team,” said President John Swallow. “The extraordinary skills she brings us in leadership, management, and teamwork — drawing upon her wide administrative experience, consummate professionalism, and deep local connections —are second to none. Welcoming her back to her alma mater is a special privilege.”
Ms. Schmitz took night classes at Carthage while working full time and raising a family, ultimately graduating magna cum laude with a degree in business administration. She later earned a Master of Education in leadership from Capella University.
Viewing Carthage’s engaging professors and collaborative atmosphere as keys to her success, Ms. Schmitz has remained active as an alumna. She served on the President’s Leadership Council and offered career guidance to students as a presenter and panelist at the first Aspire Conference in September.
“I feel honored to be back ‘home’ at Carthage College,” Ms. Schmitz said. “I knew years ago, when I first arrived on campus for business classes, that this is indeed a special place. Carthage’s mission of Seeking Truth, Building Strength, and Inspiring Service resonates with me both personally and professionally. I am looking forward to carrying out that mission here at Carthage.”
In the year ahead, Ms. Schmitz will focus on exceptional customer service, the implementation of our ERP-SIS, and continuing our efforts at improving administrative efficiency. The business office has been renamed Finance and Administrative Services to more accurately reflect its functions.
Please join us in welcoming Tina to the Carthage community!
