Carthage’s Abby Hanna joins Milwaukee Women inc
Abby Hanna, Carthage’s vice president for administrative planning and innovation, and chief organizational development officer, has joined Milwaukee Women inc (MWi)!
MWi is an organization of professional women who work to “achieve a balanced representation of women on boards of directors to maximize the performance of Wisconsin businesses.” They connect with corporate leaders from the top 50 public and top 50 private companies to build awareness, gain knowledge, and provide resources; so they can reach their goal of having 25 percent of the directors in Wisconsin’s business community be gender diverse by 2025. MWi’s research shows that companies that achieve the “Power of 3,” meaning that they have at least three women on their board of directors, outperform companies with lower female representation.
Abby was nominated for the organization by President John Swallow. “As soon as I learned about Milwaukee Women inc, I thought of Abby Hanna as an excellent candidate for membership,” he said. “Her remarkable work at Carthage in organizational development, with a special eye for strategic changes that improve student and financial success, formed a strong basis for her nomination. She will represent Carthage well, and I look forward to Carthage’s increased visibility in Milwaukee through her participation.”
In her new role, Abby is learning how to look at issues from the perspective of the public sector while sharing her insight on how higher education interacts with the surrounding communities.
Abby says she is excited to be a member of this important organization. “I’m from the Milwaukee area, and it’s great to stay connected with the Milwaukee community,” she said. “I enjoy being part of an organization that works to promote more diverse representation in local flagship companies.”
Abby earned a bachelor’s in nonprofit management from the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh, a master’s in student personnel administration from Concordia University Wisconsin, and a doctorate in education from Creighton University. She has been at Carthage for 11 years, first as registrar and later as vice president of institutional effectiveness. Abby now serves as vice president for administrative planning and innovation and chief organizational development officer.
