Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration
All Stories

Join us from 9 a.m. to noon Monday, Jan. 20 in the Jockey rooms of the Todd Wehr Center for our annual tribute to the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.

Please RSVP to Debbie Clark, assistant to the campus pastor, at dclark@carthage.edu no later than Friday, Jan. 17 to indicate which session you will attend and if you have any specific dietary needs.

Faculty: If you are bringing a class, please RSVP your name to Debbie Clark at dclark@carthage.edu and just indicate how many students from your class will be in attendance.

In addition, a service trip to “Feed My Starving Children” will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. on the evening of Monday, Jan. 20. To RSVP for that event, please contact Debbie Clark at dclark@carthage.edu.

The MLK Day Celebration will include a presentation on America’s racial history — a history that King, and so many others, fought to overcome. The presentation will be delivered by Roger Moreano, Carthage’s assistant dean of students and director of the student affairs office of equity and inclusion. During the presentation, Mr. Moreano will announce the unveiling and details of a new eight-part series his office will relaunch in the spring semester called: “America: A Racial History.”

The MLK Day Celebration will also include an interactive portion that will involve all audience members to participate in an activity, which will create a greater depth of learning about King’s legacy and about the challenges America must overcome to make his dream a reality.

The MLK Celebration will conclude with a meal we will share in community with one another.

This entire event is free and brought to you by the Student Affairs Office of Equity and Inclusion and the Center for Faith and Spirituality.
