2020 national conferenceProfessor Jun Wang, Professor Lara Christoun, and two Carthage teacher candidates, Emily Barrera ’20 and Lauren Swanson ’20, presented at the national Council for Exceptional Children Conference in Portland, Oregon on Feb. 6.

Their presentation was entitled “Preparing Pre-Service Teachers for Collaborating with Families of Students with Disabilities and English Language Learners.” The focus of the research was preparing teacher candidates to collaborate with the families of Students with Disabilities (SWD) and English Language Learners (ELLs). By critically examining and discussing culturally responsive research and interviewing parents of students of SWDs and ELLs, teacher candidates from both Prof. Wang’s and Prof. Christoun’s courses demonstrated their growth and ability to collaborate with diverse families.
