Discuss this year’s Community Read,“Joyland” by Stephen King, with Daphne Adamson ’20 at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, in room 217A of the Hedberg Library. You can get a free copy of the book at Hedberg Library or any of the libraries in Kenosha.

Set in 1973, “Joyland” tells the story of college student Devin Jones and his summer working at a small-town amusement park in North Carolina. During his summer, Devin confronts the legacy of a vicious murder, the fate of a dying child, and the ways both will change his life forever.

Both a horror tale and a coming-of-age story, “Joyland” speaks to Stephen King’s power as one of the United State’s most popular storytellers, who portrays an America struggling between its core values of hard work, goodwill and community, and the lure of violent, monstrous fantasies.
