Carthage College is looking to hire a full-time, dynamic Graphic Designer to work on our Creative Services team within the Office of Communications.

This is an exciting opportunity for a designer who has a proven track record for creating integrated cross-platform campaigns, likes working in a fast-paced environment, and wants to contribute to every type of design project possible. We are seeking a strong designer who has implemented a consistent, memorable visual identity across all mediums, and who will contribute to the creative process for developing materials including magazine layouts, ads, web sites, marketing collateral, signage, novelty items, and more.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in the arts, graphic design or related field and professional design experience; strong creative graphic design skills; a good design sense and proven portfolio of creating high-quality cross-platform visuals; print design experience including magazine layouts, annual reports, advertising, and other marketing collateral; understanding of usability and user-centric web design; web development skills are preferred but not required, to assist with the implementation of custom designs throughout the College’s website and email; high level of skill with graphic design on the Mac platform preferably, advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite CC (minimum of version 5.0). Rich media design experience is a plus. Strong project management and interpersonal skills required.

A strong attention to detail; the ability to effectively and succinctly communicate design rationale; and being an adaptable, competent, motivated, ambitious, hard-working member of a team is required. The ability to identify trends and show concepts from rough through final stages is required. Experience working with print vendors, creating files for print, and experience attending press checks is also required. Our office routinely employs student designers to assist with projects; managing, mentoring, and constructively criticizing their work is an important skill.

Carthage has recently completed a branding initiative, defining our identity both verbally and visually. As a four-year private liberal arts college with roots in the Lutheran tradition, we place a strong emphasis on both moral and intellectual values. Our prime location in Kenosha, Wisconsin, midway between Chicago and Milwaukee, allows students the opportunity to learn in a professional context. Our beautiful campus, an 80-acre arboretum on the shore of Lake Michigan, is home to 150 scholars, 2,500 full-time students, and 900 part-time students.

The Graphic Designer will assist in the development and execution of our updated visual identity, supporting long-term communications objectives that advance the image and reputation of the College. This person will assist in establishing and reinforcing Carthage branding and identity standards to ensure a creative yet consistent look and feel across all mediums.
