Bob Placko '72 with Betsy and Mark Miller. Bob Placko '72 with Betsy and Mark Miller.Bob ’72 and Diana Placko recognize Professor Mark Miller’s dedication to creating a powerful learning environment by making a generous donation to endow a scholarship in his name.

Mr. Placko was a frequent guest speaker in Prof. Miller’s Human Resources class. Prof. Miller valued Mr. Placko’s 35+ years of experience with Motorola, Inc., especially his tenure as senior vice president of human resources.

The admiration and respect were mutual. Mr. Placko felt honored to be invited into Prof. Miller’s classes and applauded his success in creating such an engaging and enjoyable course in the increasingly important field of human resources. It was this class, which was called Personnel Management back in 1971 when he was a student, that instilled in Mr. Placko the desire to pursue a career in human resources.

The Mark S. Miller and Robert M. Placko Endowed Scholarship will provide financial aid for students majoring in business with the goal of pursuing a career in human resources.

Prof. Miller joined the Carthage faculty in 2004 following a successful career at CNH, an industry leader in Racine, Wis., and one of the world’s largest agricultural and construction companies. His career is nationally recognized in the field of supply chain management including purchasing inventory management and logistics. This gift celebrates his retirement in 2019.

Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. Placko, for your thoughtful gift!
