Professor Nicholas Pilarski has been selected as a finalist for the Tim Hetherington Trust’s Visionary Award. Prof. Pilarski was selected for his documentary virtual reality work and is one of two Americans nominated, the other being a chief photojournalist from the New York Times.

The award highlights global works that are of “great humanitarian importance [that] reach beyond the limitations of conventional media practice to create engaging and dynamic communication pieces.”

Communications and Digital Media student Brooke Halvorsen ’21 will aid in the project this summer as a SURE fellow, researching marker-based VR technology and narrative AI systems.
