Holly Pelnar ’20 has been awarded the prestigious Merle and Eunice Boyer Endowed Scholarship for her outstanding commitment to academics, scholarship, and extra-curricular excellence within the Psychological Science Department.

The Merle and Eunice Boyer Scholarship is awarded to a senior student in the humanities or social science departments who has distinguished themselves within their department.

Holly has been an active member in the Psychological Science Department since her first semester at Carthage and has distinguished herself both within and outside the classroom.

In the summer after her freshman year (Summer 2018), she worked with Prof. Leslie Cameron as a SURE program fellow. Her project examined the way individuals approach reading and interpret graphs. Holly continued to be involved in this line of research which culminated in the successful presentation of her thesis project: “Mental Processes Utilized by Students During Graphical Interpretation.” She is one of two students to complete a thesis with an Honors designation this semester in the department.

Holly has taken on several leadership roles for psychological science: she has served as a departmental fellow this academic year, she is the past secretary and current president of the Psychology Club and Psi Chi Honorary Society, an honors society focused on psychological science.

Holly always brings hard work and a positive attitude to classes and departmental events. She is a role model to her peers and exemplifies the best of Carthage College and the liberal arts.
