This summer we have been highlighting the value of networking and new job search strategies.

Whether you hate it or love it, networking is a crucial piece of your job search and career readiness puzzle. This quick video from The Aspire Center helps lay the groundwork for navigating the wide world of networking.

Career development is rarely a linear path. Watch a quick video on “How a Job is Born” that gives you information on how jobs and internships are created and how to get early access to positions before they are even publicly available — maybe even to get a position created just for you! Handshake is a website providing job/internship postings, events, and special subscription resources specifically for Carthage College students and alumni.

The Aspire Network

Nearly 80 percent of jobs are found through networking and referrals. Carthaginians want to help you!

The Aspire Network is an easy-to-use online network for Carthage students, alumni, faculty/staff, and friends of the college — similar to LinkedIn, but customized for the Carthage experience!

Alumni and friends are excited to support and connect with you. Be sure to log in frequently as more alumni are joining each day. Connect with other Carthaginians for networking, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.

Customized features include:

  • Flash Mentoring: Get answers fast to your job-search questions and through online discussions.
  • The Aspire Mentoring Program: You can be paired for a semester-long, guided mentorship for a deeper connection.
  • Affinity Groups: Engage with Carthaginians by region, major, industry, or interest.
  • Expansive Filters: Search the community by major, industry, help topics, location, etc.

Career Specialists

Career specialists are industry experts available to help you with career preparation, job search, skill-building, and making connections. Alumni should utilize Handshake or contact the office to make an appointment with a particular career specialist in your industry. Career specialists can conduct phone or video chat appointments.

Big Interview provides access to interactive interview preparation tools that will sharpen your skills. You can practice a variety of interview difficulty levels, save the video, and share with a mentor from The Aspire Network for additional feedback.
