Carthage alumni present digital opera concert
Professor Rick Bingen ’15 came together less than a year ago with an idea: a summer opera festival in Kenosha. The new Kenosha Opera Festival was quickly born, and the trio began preparing for the 2020 inaugural season. Unfortunately, their hopeful planning came to a sudden halt because of the pandemic. Despite these challenges, the team wasn’t ready to give up yet, and they decided to organize a digital concert.
Nicholas Huff ’15, Kaila Bingen ’15, M.M ’20, andThe Kenosha Opera Festival presented the Digital Gala Concert — a celebration of beautiful music, artistic collaboration, and the Kenosha community — on Aug. 9.
Nearly forty singers and instrumentalists from Kenosha, throughout the country, and from around the world shared their talents to make the concert possible. This concert featured world-class performances from Rafael Porto, Nicholas Huff, Darren Drone, Keely Futterer, Steve Hobe ’15, Nicole Keeling, and Veena Akama-Makia. The grand finale is a performance of “Va Pensiero,” a fabulous chorus piece from the opera “Nabucco,”complete with full orchestra and conducted by Professor Eduardo Garcia-Novelli.
You can watch the concert on the Kenosha Opera Festival Facebook page, or you can watch it on the Kenosha Opera Festival Youtube channel.
Tuning in to the Digital Gala Concert is a great opportunity to show support for the arts in this difficult time. Mr. Huff, Mrs. Bingen, and Prof. Bingen look forward to sharing this beautiful concert with you!
