Did you Know?
Even amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, many employers are recruiting, interviewing and extending offers for employment that will begin in December and May? Since the start of COVID-19, there has been an increase in over 250% of employers now posting jobs on Handshake and they’re relying on virtual ways to reach and connect with students. It’s never too early to pursue and secure your post-graduation employment or build your professional network by getting to know these employers. Trust us, you don’t want to wait until after you graduate to begin your career search, especially in today’s challenging and very competitive job market.
Position yourself for success by preparing before the Virtual Internship & Career Fair. Recruiters attending the Career Fair expect students to be very well prepared. Here’s what you can do:
- Create or update your resume and have it reviewed by your advisor or career specialist
- Carefully review the list of participating employers here in Handshake and the list of positions they have available. New employers will be registering daily leading up to the event to check back often. Be open to a variety of organizations and opportunities because you never know where it will lead you. Look at the transferable skills, experiences and coursework you’ve acquired as a student and prepare to talk with employers about them. Never go into a virtual career fair without reviewing the employers who will be there first!
- Do your research. Research the companies attending the fair right here on Handshake and follow them on LinkedIn. Also, be sure to search for news articles and social media posts related to the organization. You might be surprised to learn about achievements, initiatives and causes that the company associates itself with and that would be great conversation material.
