A total of 17 Carthage professors from a variety of disciplines have been awarded emeriti status, the College announced at a faculty meeting on Aug. 27:

  • Maria Carrig, Professor Emerita of English, Great Ideas, and Theatre
  • Anne Cassidy, Professor Emerita of Art
  • Dan Choffnes, Professor Emeritus of Biology
  • Ben DeSmidt, Associate Professor Emeritus of Classics and Great Ideas
  • Scott Hegrenes, Professor Emeritus of Biology
  • Chris Lynch, Professor Emeritus of Political Science and Great Ideas
  • Michael McShane, Professor Emeritus of Philosophy and Great Ideas
  • Ed Montanaro, Professor Emeritus of Economics and Modern Languages
  • Tom Noer, Professor Emeritus of History
  • Kurt Piepenburg, Professor Emeritus of Geospatial Science
  • Chris Renaud, Professor Emerita of Classics, Religion, and Women’s and Gender Studies
  • Dan Schowalter, Professor Emeritus of Classics and Religion

The Board of Trustees grants emeriti status to long-serving, tenured faculty members based on merit. The title accords them some of the same privileges as actively teaching faculty, including participation in academic processions and attendance (in a non-voting capacity) at faculty meetings.
