#StaySafeCarthage update: COVID conduct expectations
We hope that your arrival — or pending arrival — to campus goes smoothly and you’re following the #StaySafeCarthage guidelines. Whether you are on or off campus, you can find a lot of useful and important information at https://www.carthage.edu/carthage-covid-19/. We ask that you become familiar with and follow these guidelines. This message is intended to provide answers to questions about what happens if students are not following the guidelines.
For concerns involving a person or small group of people, i.e. forgetting your mask or having an extra person in your room, the response will often be a verbal or written warning. If there are multiple reports, two to three or more, for the same person they will be processed as non-compliance with the community code. This could result in a student being temporarily suspended from campus and/or fined.
For concerns involving an egregious conflict with the safety guidelines, i.e. hosting/attending a gathering with a significant number of people in a residence hall space or off-campus party will be processed as non-compliance upon a first report. These super spreader events significantly compromise the efforts of everyone following the guidelines, and as we have learned have caused other institutions to pause or end in-person learning. Students could face a fine and suspension from campus for attending such events and a more significant fine and longer suspension for hosting such events. Please remember that we each have a role to play to keep our community and each other safe so we may minimize the spread of COVID-19 and any negative effects on our plans for a successful and healthy semester.
