Jojin Van Winkle During July 2020, Professor Jojin Van Winkle presented at two academic conferences. 

At Teaching Place, a conference hosted by the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD), Prof. Van Winkle presented a talk titled “Teaching infiltrating places with site-specific soundscapes,” sharing experiences from her Spring 2019 Sound Art course. This virtual conference connected arts faculty, curators, artists, and community leaders from all over United States teaching and working on place-based and community-based arts projects.

For the University Film and Video Association’s (UFVA) Annual Conference in late July 2020, Prof. Van Winkle conducted a virtual workshop titled “RECHARGE YOUR PRACTICE: Researching and Applying for International and National Artist Residencies (emphasis on: film, video art, new media, and writing).” The UFVA Annual Conference brings together over 500 university and college professors working in film, video and new media, and scholars and artists in all stages of their careers. This year’s conference was held virtually and sponsored by Florida State University and UFVA. 

In her workshop, Prof. Van Winkle emphasized the growing area of e-residencies, which connect artists from around the world through virtual platforms. She discussed the success and challenges of the two recent e-residencies in which she participated in during May and June.

Prof. Jojin Van Winkle is a visual artist, filmmaker, and assistant professor of art at Carthage College, teaching foundations and new media. She is the program director for Carthage’s Photography and Film and New Media Program. Her research centers around the practice of listening. She exhibited large-scale installation art before working in video/film, photography, and sound.
