Dear Students,

We are writing today to provide updates regarding the current state of Covid-19 on campus and in our local community. We have seen a notable uptick in the positive cases among the student population, but even more concerning is how many close contacts end up in quarantine as a result of each positive case. The following measures and reminders need to be followed as we work to remain in-person for learning as scheduled.

  • Effective immediately, no off-campus visitors or fellow student guests for residential students will be allowed until November 6th. This will be reviewed weekly by the committee.
  • We strongly encourage students to only leave campus for essential needs. Some examples are work, family, medical needs, or to go/drive thru food.
  • While students can lower their mask while actively eating or drinking, please be mindful of social distancing during these activities to minimize spread.

What can we do to keep ourselves and each other healthy?

Follow our #StaySafeCarthage guidelines all the time.

  • Wear a face mask in any indoor space (including empty conference rooms).
  • Wear a face mask outside when other people are around.
  • Make sure you’re wearing and taking care of your masks correctly.
  • Wash your hands frequently with soap for at least 20 seconds.
  • Use hand sanitizer.
  • Follow physical distancing guidelines when walking across campus, standing in line for food, and when talking with friends.
  • Use the Daily Check-in Symptom Monitoring tool.

Remember: Some people show no symptoms of COVID-19, but they may have the virus and be able to spread it to others. That’s why we need everyone following these guidelines all the time. Everyone must continue to help each to comply with the safety expectations and Student Affairs will continue to address non-compliance.

Thank you again for your cooperation and efforts to keep yourself and our community as healthy as possible!

Sincerely,
The COVID-19 Coordinating Committee
