Pat Pfaffle sign In May 2019, the Carthage community lost beloved biology Professor Patrick Pfaffle. Friends, former students, and colleagues honored his memory by funding the installation of a way sign pointing to international destinations including Ometepe, Nicaragua where Prof. Pfaffle led a J-Term study tour since 2002.

The sign was installed on Nov. 5, 2020 outside the south entrance of the David A. Straz Jr. Center for the Natural and Social Sciences. This prominent 12-foot sign memorializes Prof. Pfaffle’s impact on campus and reminds students that their Carthage education can take them far beyond the campus near the lake. A dedication service will be planned when we are able to gather together in person.

Supporters also funded a scholarship in Prof. Pfaffle’s name. The Dr. Patrick Pfaffle Memorial Scholarship will provide aid to students with financial need, enabling them to attend the J-Term Nicaragua Study Tour. The first round of scholarship awards will be made in the summer of 2021, provided that the College can safely resume J-Term tours.

Contributions to the Dr. Patrick Pfaffle Memorial Scholarship are still welcome. Simply fill out the donation form and enter the scholarship name in the designation field. Thank you.
