Watch the Lincoln Chamber Singers perform ‘Beautiful Child of Song’

November 27, 2020

After the Fall Choral Concert was canceled due to the pandemic, the Lincoln Chamber Singers recorded their performance so they could share it virtually with the Carthage community. We hope you enjoy their performance of “Beautiful Child of Song,” by Stephen Foster. This new arrangement of the 1860 piece was done by Carthage music professor and Lincoln Chamber Singers conductor Gregory Berg. It features two additional verses Prof. Berg composed.

Stephen Foster (1826-1864) is widely regarded as America’s first great songwriter; he has even been called The Father of American Music.

“I was introduced to this song in the summer of 2008 when I heard soprano Dawn Upshaw sing it in a recital in Nashville, Tennessee, on the stage of the original Grand Olde Opry,” Prof. Berg shared. “I had heard many Stephen Foster songs before this but never this particular song.”
