‘Flying & Falling’: Enjoy the fall dance show from home this weekend!
The Carthage Theatre Department presents “Flying & Falling,” a dance concert with artistic direction by Professor Stacy Pottinger. This theatre production is pre-recorded and is available to watch from home at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 4-5 and at 3 p.m. Dec. 6 on our livestream. No registration or tickets required.
The annual fall dance production, this year titled “Flying & Falling,” provides opportunities for Carthage dancers to embody various dance works and present them on the Carthage mainstage. These dance works include those created for them by guest artists, traditional works that have been re-staged and given new life, and new insights by Carthage performers and students. These dedicated dancers and choreographers work diligently over the course of the fall semester to bring together their show, starting with dancer auditions early in September.
“Flying & Falling” brings to mind the kind of limitless, boundless, soaring movement that makes dance seem so effortless and so appealing to audiences. The program is a lively interplay of risk and resolution, and is bound to be one to remember.
This year, the Carthage dance program has found creative ways to share their exciting and innovative work with the community. The recording will include a behind-the-scenes discussion about the process as the dancers and choreographers watch and discuss their pieces. The show features choreography by artistic director Prof. Pottinger, performances by Carthage dance minors and the program’s emerging choreographers, and regional and national guest artists, including Jenny Barreca and the Repertory Etudes Project.
