Nursing students lead virtual class Carthage nursing students from the Nursing Practice V: Improving Health Outcomes of Populations course led a second virtual health teaching session for two groups of West Allis Central High School (WACHS) students.

The hour-long presentations covered the prevention, screening, treatment and health consequences on sexually transmitted infections. The WACHS students also had an opportunity to interview the Carthage nursing students about why they selected Carthage and the nursing profession.

Professor Janet Levey collaborated with Evan Burlew, a health teacher at WACHS, on this important health education initiative and service-learning project.

Students involved in this project on Dec. 3 include: Heidi Wittwer ’21, Lauren Fisher ’21, Sarah Spaude ’21, Nicole Nitti ’21, and Hannah Tracker ’21. On Dec. 4, Brianne Jensen ’21, Bryce Thomas ’21, Madison Wolschlager ’21, Hailey Richards ’21, and Carla Torres ’21 presented to different health classes. The latter group also interviewed the counselor, advisor, teachers, and support staff from WACHS about health outcomes for the school, especially during COVID-19.
