New scholarship fund honors alumna Evelyn Bennett ’85
As the 150 Years of Carthage Women Celebration comes to a close, a powerful gift to Carthage honors the career contributions of Evelyn “Evie” Bennett ’85 while supporting future business leaders to follow in her footsteps.
The donor, Ms. Bennett’s business partner of over 30 years, Jeffrey Brandt, hopes to encourage professionally-motivated and ambitious Lutheran women to learn from Ms. Bennett’s example as someone who remained true to her beliefs, ideals, moral code, and faith while balancing the interests and demands of her family, her church, her career, and herself.
During her 31-year career at William Frick & Company, Ms. Bennett raised herself by seeking first to raise others. She started with the company as a Product Manager and eventually became co-owner with Mr. Brandt.
No title meant as much to Ms. Bennett and Mr. Brandt as did that of “Partner.” In the truest sense of the word, they each worked to their strengths, embraced each other’s differences, and held the whole of the partnership as greater than the sum of the individuals. Along the way, they became the ubiquitous “Jeff-n-Evie” to their staff, and to each other, they became siblings-inspirit and comrades-in-arms.
Mr. Brandt’s $65,000 gift in honor of Evie Bennett will establish both an annual and endowed scholarship at Carthage.
