Be featured as the Writing Center’s Writer of the Week: Submissions due Friday

February 23, 2021

Students are physically distanced and wearing masks while studying in the Science Center atrium.Attention all student writers! Do you have a particular piece of writing that you are especially proud of? The Brainard Writing Center is looking to feature a student’s work each week in its new Writer of the Week program.

Each week, the Writing Center will highlight a different category of writing and ask for your best submissions in that category, from creative writing to scientific reporting. After submissions are closed, a team of writing fellows will read each piece and select one writer to be featured on the Writing Center blog. The student’s writing will be published along with a short bio and a description of their work. Each featured writer will also receive their choice of any eBook under $15.

This week’s category

This week, we’re looking for text analysis and close reading papers. These are papers based on the analysis of specific details in a text (or a few texts) — such as a novel, play, or piece of poetry — to reach a wider conclusion. You almost certainly wrote a few of these papers for Intellectual Foundations or an English class. It doesn’t have to be from this year; any paper you’ve written while at Carthage is eligible.

Submit your paper

Submissions are by Friday, Feb. 26, and the selected writer will be notified via email no later than Tuesday, March 2.

If you don’t write many text analysis papers, that’s okay! A paper of yours may fit into a category next week. Check The Bridge or Instagram (@carthagewritingcenter) to see the topic each week.

This program is open to all student writers at Carthage, and students from all backgrounds and academic disciplines are encouraged to submit their best works. The Writing Center is looking forward to hearing from you!
