The Carthage Young Artists Chamber Music Program will present its culminating concert at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 20, in the A. F. Siebert Chapel. This concert and program were made possible by the Racine Community Foundation through the Smolenski fund. External patrons are invited to join us from home through our livestream.

The Carthage Young Artists Chamber Music Program provides students in grades 4-12 the opportunity to learn and perform chamber music under the guidance of various youth orchestra directors, Carthage faculty, and Carthage music students. From beginners playing in their first chamber ensemble to experienced students diving into standard chamber repertoire, the program seeks to engage and inspire students of all skill levels. The repertoire presented at the concert will include works by Franz Joseph Haydn, George Handel, and more.

This program is headed by Darlene Rivest and Carthage Professor Edward Kawakami. Ms. Rivest is an avid chamber musician, having performed in the Driftless String Trio and the Muzika Piano Trio. She is the concertmaster of the Milton-Janesville Choral Union Orchestra, assistant principal second violinist in the Wisconsin Philharmonic, and a first violinist in both the Kenosha Symphony and Racine Symphony. As an educator, Ms. Rivest has served as adjunct violin and viola instructor for Carthage and Beloit College. She was also the executive director and a conductor for the Lakeshore Youth Orchestras and founded their Summer Strings program in 2014. Prof. Kawakami is the director of orchestral activities and an associate professor of music at Carthage.
