All Stories

In the final week of the fall semester, 22 students who took the Chinese and Japanese Culture Through Calligraphy course presented their final calligraphy pieces in class.

Watch a video of their calligraphy pieces below.

Most of the students did not have any experience in brush calligraphy, and six students did not even know any characters of Chinese or Japanese before taking this course. However, during the past 15 weeks of the fall semester, the students have not only explored Asian history, philosophy, and aesthetic values through this traditional art, but they also created their own writing styles in a process of self-expression and self-discovery through diligent practices.

Their calligraphy pieces will make a wonderful holiday gift for their loved ones or a motto to encourage themselves.
