For the fifth time in the last six years, Carthage has been designated a top producer of Fulbright U.S. Students.

Carthage is the only private college or university in Wisconsin that made the new list in The Chronicle of Higher Education. Four recent alumni of the College won Fulbright fellowships as English teaching assistants for 2020-21.

Carthage has been named a top producer of Fulbright U.S. Students for 2020-21. Supported by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the Fulbright Program is celebrating its 75th anniversary as the premier source of cultural and educational exchange fellowships for American students.

Unfortunately, the global COVID-19 pandemic prevented Bradley Rutter ’18 (Argentina) and Jennifer Stumme ’20 (Indonesia) from carrying out their fellowships. The other two Carthage recipients, Anesce Dremen ’17 (India) and Levi Latoz ’20 (Taiwan), are scheduled to complete their delayed Fulbright assignments in 2021-22.

Each recipient progressed through an on-campus interview and two stages of selection by review panels in the United States and the host countries. Carthage has had 33 Fulbrighters since 2008.

“For many years, Carthage graduates have represented our college and country exceptionally well as Fulbright fellows all over the world,” said Professor Greg Baer, who recently succeeded Professor Emeritus Dan Choffnes as director of student fellowships. “When we emerge from the pandemic, I know that Carthaginians in Fulbright placements will once again prove to be curious, adaptable, and effective cultural ambassadors — this year with resilience added to the list of their qualities.”
