NAPERVILLE, Ill. — For the fourth time this year, the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) selected Carthage's
Joseph White as their field athlete of the week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
White put on a show at the Don Church Invitational this past weekend, competing in three throwing events where he placed first in two, second in one, and set personal bests in two as well. In the shot put, the Kenosha, Wis. native broke the Carthage record on his first attempt of the day before increasing the mark to 17.79 meters on a later throw. It's the second school record that White has set in throws during the indoor and outdoor track seasons so far this year.
He then won the discus, an event which he competed at nationals in last season, with a throw of 45.47 meters to take first place, before seeing a PR in the hammer throw and taking second place at 54.93 meters. His mark in the hammer places him seventh on the all-time school's top-10.
While it's the first outdoor conference student-athlete of the week award for White this year, it's his fourth such honor during the track and field seasons. The Firebirds have now won two of the four CCIW outdoor field athlete of the week awards this season, and have taken home a total of eight conference weekly awards in track and field this year.
The Firebirds men's and women's teams are set to compete at the Drake Alternate Meet on Friday, April 29 on the campus of UW-Whitewater next.
