Yuhan Xue ?22 Senior Piano Recital Watch Yuhan Xue ’22 perform her Senior Piano Recital at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, June 5, in the A. F. Siebert Chapel.

Yuhan, a student of Professor Deborah Masloski, is a pianist with an amazing technical ability, able to reach into the piano and play the strings directly. During her recital, she will perform “Sonata Op.109” by Ludwig van Beethoven, “C-A-G-E” by TAN Dun, and “Pictures at an Exhibition” by Modest Mussorgsky.

“Piano Sonata Op.109” was one of Beethoven’s final piano sonatas; it is a piece that alternates between notes of exhalation and prestissimo movement. Dedicated to a friend and mentor, “C-A-G-E” is an interesting piece that requires the performer to have the ability to pluck the piano strings. While only using four pitches, the work uses the pipa to imitate the sounds of traditional Chinese folk instruments. Also created in memory of a friend, “Pictures at an Exhibition” takes the listener through one part to the next, as if they were observing pictures in a gallery.

The recital is free and open to the public. Events are subject to change. For more information, please visit us at www.carthage.edu/arts or follow us on Facebook for upcoming events and information about Fine Arts at Carthage. You can also join us also from home through our livestream.
