SUMMARY:

The Director of External Relations and Community Engagement is a member of The Aspire Center team and is the key point person for employers and community members interested in drawing upon the talents of Carthage students through a variety of experiences, such as student employment, internships, job shadowing, service projects, course-integrated learning, and post-graduate experiences.

The Director of External Relations and Community Engagement will implement policies, programs, and initiatives to strengthen the recruitment pipeline for students to community organizations, employers, and graduate/professional schools through traditional and innovative methods. The director will develop and execute a strategy along with necessary tactical practices for managing and reporting on a portfolio of prospects and engaged alumni, employers, and other external partners using a customer relationship management system (CRM) and engagement practices designed to reach target audiences and deliver results.

PROGRAMS AND INITIATIVES:

  • Develop, implement and refine programs and events such as career fairs, employer-led skill-building activities, service-based programs, industry panels, site visits, and networking events.
  • Assess current employer relationships and identify areas of opportunity with new employers based on industry trends, student interest, and alumni/parent connections.
  • Create and maintain a customer relational management system of key employers to engage Carthage students, developing effective and productive relationships with these targeted employers.
  • Develop recruitment strategies & policies for external constituents.
  • Meet with alumni and friends of the College to mobilize volunteers and support on-going mentoring, fundraising and donor stewardship.
  • Collaborate with faculty members and career specialists to identify internship/job candidates and employers.
  • Utilize data to make informed decisions regarding recruitment strategies & placements.
  • Oversee the organization of a recruiting calendar to ensure the Aspire Center is prepared for each recruiting cycle and can connect employers with students when they are ready to hire.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee the maintenance of a strategy to provide a comprehensive employer experience, including strategies to increase efficiency and automate the employer experience.
  • Host formal and informal learning opportunities in collaboration with faculty and the college’s advancement team to engage alumni, employers, and other external partners on a variety of topics.

The Director will supervise the Internship and Experiential Learning Coordinator and the Data Systems Coordinator. The Director may also teach a course, such as a College Success Seminar or Aspire-related course, as part of their normal responsibilities.

The position will require willingness to travel occasionally to complete College business - primarily in Kenosha, Racine, Milwaukee, and the Chicagoland area and primarily occurring within normal business hours. Some night and weekend work will be required.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Strong sales, business development, or relationship management experience, including a demonstrated ability to lead and manage multiple projects with a broad range of internal and external constituents simultaneously.
  • Possess effective written and verbal communication skills across mediums.
  • Able to use relevant technology tools, such as a customer relationship management system (like SalesForce, Less Annoying CRM/LACRM, Raiser’s Edge, or others) and similar productivity, reporting, and communication tools. Familiarity with Smartsheet, Handshake, and/or PeopleGrove are helpful, but not required.
