The Mailroom Clerk assists the Mailroom Coordinator in providing mail processing and photocopying services to support the Carthage College educational mission.


  • Drives to Kenosha Post Office to retrieve mail.
  • Process incoming and outgoing mail to ensure the accurate and timely delivery and/or dispatch of mail or packages.
  • Perform finishing operations (letter folding, book binding, and paper cutting.)
  • Scan packages in and out of the shipping system.
  • Answer telephone inquiries and general questions about mailroom operations.
  • Close the mailroom, insuring the proper shutdown of equipment, and order in the mailroom.


  • Requires education generally equivalent to a High School Diploma.
  • Must have valid Driver’s License, be able to pass background check, have a great driving record, pass Carthage Safe Driving Courses to become a Carthage College Approved Driver.
  • Requires excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate with employees, students, and faculty members.
  • Requires the ability to use a personal computer and word processing, spreadsheet, and Adobe Acrobat software.
  • Requires the ability to use a variety of mailroom equipment such as; postage meter, hand-held scanners, photocopying machines, electric paper cutter, 3 hole punch, binder, folding machines, and an envelope printer.
  • Requires knowledge of and the ability to use a variety of standard office equipment such as a 10-key calculator, telephone, and computer keyboard.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand, talk and/or hear, and/or use hands to finger, handle or touch objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, reach above shoulders, climb or balance, and use foot/feet to operate machine controls. The employee mush frequently lift and/or move between 1 and 5 pounds while moving paper or small packages and must regularly lift and/or move from 25 to 60 pounds while moving paper and/or large packages. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work is performed in a mailroom environment. The employee is occasionally works near moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemical chemicals, and near the risk of electric shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud, due to the proximity of copy/mailroom operating equipment.
