Carthage Blitz Ultimate Frisbee Logo Carthage Blitz Ultimate Frisbee is extremely proud to announce that, for the first time in the program’s history, we will have a women’s team!

Over the past few years, the club sport has expanded with both individualized and team-wide progression. In spring 2022, we took first place in the Lake Superior Conference and qualified for regionals for the first time in the past eight years. It was there that we won our first regional championship match and ultimately took fourth place! Now, we have a core group of women ready to take on this next season.

“Joining Blitz is one of the best decisions I made after transferring to Carthage. I was quite hesitant in joining at first — even a little intimidated because I had never played a field sport before,” says Jackie Chiakas ’23, Blitz secretary. “But I received a lot of encouragement from my friends who where on the team, and now I have been playing for almost a year! I never thought I’d progress so quickly as an ultimate player, let alone be a part of developing the women’s team for Carthage. We can’t wait for what’s to come in the seasons ahead!”

As we continue our groundbreaking success, we will still practice together and enter as many mixed tournaments as we can. When tournaments don’t offer a mixed category, we will be able to compete as independent men’s and women’s teams!

Carthage Blitz Ultimate Frisbee Women's Team “On my first day of practice two years ago, I was overwhelmed by the amount of men. They were athletic and competitive, and I wasn’t sure if I would fit in,” says Rosie Ehle ’24, Blitz co-president. “Luckily there were three other women, and we became close friends in a short amount of time. Since then, we have worked hard to recruit more and more women and have been able to show them that we can hold our own against the men on the team. Luckily, we have reached the point of Blitz transformation where we have enough women to create a women’s team! I am beyond excited to be a part of this new journey for Blitz and hope that this team becomes stronger and stronger.”

At the end of the day, we’re a diverse group of students with different backgrounds and experiences who enjoy coming together to play a sport we’ve all come to love.

“Playing ultimate is a blast, but my favorite part about Blitz is that I’ve found some of my best friends on the team, says Rosie. “Everyone looks out for each other and everyone is always included. We also love to do things outside of practice as a team. You will find friendship between your teammates.”

The start-up stories of success are endless within Blitz, which is a testament to how far we have come. Whoever you are, wherever you are, we welcome you with open arms and will facilitate your attainment of whatever you are after — whether it is exercise, competition, fun times, community, or all of the above!
