Geospatial science faculty awarded grant through NASA
as principal investigator, Professor Matthew ZornProfessor Wenjie Sun as lead geographic information scientist, and Professor Joy Mast as lead geoscientist were awarded a $24,000 Wisconsin Space Grant Consortium (WSGC) Higher Education Incentives Grant through NASA for the project “Integrating Geoscience, Remote Sensing, and GIS for Undergraduate Teaching and Research.”
This project aims to develop a comprehensive set of undergraduate teaching and research materials and infrastructure in the Geospatial Science Department to connect our remote sensing, geographical information science, unmanned aerial systems (drones), and geoscience courses. The grant funds the acquisition of multi-spectral infrared and thermal sensors for our UAS platforms and more high-precision GPS units, together with research student support, enabling the department to develop and deliver a more integrated curriculum to bridge our courses for more effective and engaging undergraduate education and research.
