Alex Helgeson
Second Year
Western Technical College

Congratulations to this week’s #WSGCStudentSpotlight, Alex Helgeson! Alex is the recipient of an Undergraduate Scholarship award. He is in his second year at Western Technical College and on track to graduate this spring with an Associative Science/Liberal Arts degree. After graduating, Alex hopes to continue his education at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

Alex grew up on a small family dairy farm built by his grandparents, growing crops, raising cattle, goats, and rabbits, and fixing machinery. He has always had an interest in the STEM field and enjoyed taking the most rigorous STEM courses his high school offered. At Western Technical College, Alex takes as many upper-level Math and Science classes as he can.

After graduating in the spring, Alex hopes to continue his education at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse where he will either study Chemistry or Engineering. As a chemist, Alex would like to look for possible biological links between extraterrestrial samples and known compounds on Earth. His dream is to one day design and test new organisms to survive in conditions outside of Earth’s environment. Outside of school, Alex enjoys spending time outdoors, playing paintball, racing RC cars, and modifying his paintball and RC equipment.

Congratulations Alex, and best of luck to you in your future!
