Ariane Boissonnas

Junior

Carthage College

Major: Physics and Computer Science

Minors: Math and Music

Ariane Boissonnas is a Junior, studying physics, computer science, math and music at Carthage College. She received a 2016 Undergraduate Research Award. Ariane has been chosen to be this weeks #WSGCStudentSpotlight!

Boissonnas has been interested in physics, specifically astrophysics, since her junior year of high school when she had her first physics class. Her interest in computer science stems from her father, who is a computer programmer, but became solidified when she took Introduction to Computer Science in early 2016.

In fall of 2014, she participated in the observational trip to Kitt Peak National Observatory in Tucson, Arizona. While there, she photographed planetary nebulae with the WIYN 0.9-meter telescope. She was also a part of the 2016 RockSat-X team. During the summer of 2016, Boissonnas continued to work on the payload for the RockSat-X that was launched in August.

Boissonnas is very involved in the Carthage community. She is an astronomy tutor, a member of Carthage Women’s Ensemble, and an active member of the Carthage chapter of the Society of Physics Students.

Congratulations Ariane and good luck in your future research!
