Simpson Street Free Press Receives National Recognition

WSGC Awardee Simpson Street Free Press (SSFP) was recognized as a national leader in literacy education and summer learning.  SSFP will be featured in a prestigious webinar produced by the Afterschool Alliance based in Washington D.C., focusing on preventing the “summer slide.”

Simpson Street Free Press is a student-produced newspaper that is part of WSGC’s Special Initiatives Program. Students research, write, and publish their own content to gain real-world writing experience in an encouraging environment. SSFP teaches practical and transferable skills to the youth of Wisconsin.  

WSGC’S Special Initiatives Program’s purpose is to provide planning grants and supplemental grants for new or on-going projects which have space-related content. The projects are intended to encourage, attract, or retain underrepresented groups in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematical fields, especially women, minorities, and persons with disabilities.
