WSGC Announces UGS Awardees

Three Students Named WSGC Undergraduate Scholars

 

WSGC is pleased to announce, we have awarded three two-year students a Fall Undergraduate Scholarship.  Seven students applied to the program.  Each awardee will receive a $2,000 scholarship to be applied to their Spring 2015 academic pursuits.  Students attending one of WSGC Affiliate campuses full-time, may apply for a Spring Undergraduate Scholarship which will be applied to the 2016-2017 academic year.  Applications are due February 1, 2016.

Meet the Fall 2015-2016 Undergraduate Scholars:

Brian Eberwein, UW-Fox Valley

Brian Eberwein is the president of the engineering club, teaching members how tobuild radio controlled airplanes. He is also a Student Senator serving on the Curriculum committee, fills in as Communication Director, and volunteers at fundraising events. In addition to attending school full-time, pursuing a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, he currently designs and produces laser cut radio control model airplane kits teaches Cub Scouts how to build model rockets. After completing his work at UW-Fox, Brian plans on pursuing a doctorate in aerospace systems engineering.

Joel Nielsen, Western Technical College

Joel Nielsen is a biomedical electronics student at Western Technical College where he is the president of the biomed club, an active council member of Alcohol and Other Drug Addictions committee, a member of Phi Theta Kappa honor society, and named to the President’s list during all semesters of attendance. He is a 2 time recipient of the Mary Nell Atkinson Endowed Scholarship, recipient of the Western Alumni Endowed scholarship, Biomedical Association Endowed Scholarship, and Wisconsin Space Grant Consortium Undergraduate Scholarship. He has previously completed a technical diploma in electrical systems, also from Western. Joel currently attends school full time, services copy machines for a local company, maintains radio transmission equipment for a local radio group, and co-leads the Western Technical College’s Tethered Aerostat Program funded by WSGC/NASA. Upon graduation, Joel would like to pursue a career with a major medical device manufacturer and eventually attain a bachelor degree in biomedical engineering. In his free time, he enjoys golfing, fishing, bow hunting, and spending time with friends and family.

Jeshanah Zolkowski, UW-Fox Valley

Jeshanah Zolkowski sees learning as a full-time job she thoroughly enjoys. While she attends classes at the University of Wisconsin Fox Valley, she serves as a biology, chemistry, and math tutor. Jeshanah desires to study biology and chemistry; she hopes to earn a doctorate degree in one of these subjects. At the end of her educational journey, she hopes to teach post-secondary institution. She wants everyone to enjoy learning as much as she does!
