Jim Padilla Meet the dean: Jim Padilla to lead School of Business and Economics

Carthage hired a founding dean to shape the new School of Business and Economics: Jim Padilla, whose successful track record as an educational and corporate leader spans more than 20 years.

Taking office in mid-July, Dr. Padilla is directing the launch of the business school. It promises to enhance the already well-respected program that the College has established in the heart of a major economic corridor.

“Jim Padilla’s proven ability to launch and expand programs, make genuine external connections, and lead and collaborate with distinguished faculty make him an outstanding choice for this role,” said President John Swallow. “He stood out in a very strong pool of candidates that included current and former college presidents.

Director of engineering hired to lead growing program

Professor Robert Nagel In July, the College welcomed Robert Nagel as its first director of engineering. He’s an associate professor at James Madison University in Virginia, where he also directs the Center for Innovation in Engineering Education.

“I am thrilled that Robert Nagel is taking the helm of our new engineering program,” said President John Swallow. “He will ably lead the expansion of the program’s reach and impact to meet the needs of the region.”

As director, Prof. Nagel’s ultimate plan is to secure ABET accreditation. The College intends to transform a portion of Lentz Hall into a lab, classroom, and office space for engineering.
