Carthage presents 2022-23 faculty and staff awards
At a year-end faculty/staff reception on May 26, Carthage honored four employees for their standout service. Meet the 2022-23 recipients:
DISTINGUISHED TEACHING AWARD
Julie Dawson
Assistant Professor of Accounting and Finance
For 29 years, Professor Julie Dawson has contributed to a rigorous but supportive accounting program at Carthage.
“We all look up to her as a role model,” one nominating student wrote. “She encourages all of us to own our work and not to be afraid to make mistakes.”
A recent report ranked Carthage in the top 6 percent for first-time success rate on the CPA exam, and the College has an extremely high job placement rate. Prof. Dawson also brought the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program to Carthage, in which students have prepared taxes for thousands of local residents free of charge.
DISTINGUISHED STAFF AWARD
Debbie Clark
Administrative Assistant – Center for Faith and Spirituality
Since 2001, Debbie Clark has provided indispensable assistance in Carthage’s spiritual life office.
She helps coordinate the massive Christmas Festival, organizes weekly speakers and meetings, and spearheads the supplemental food station Luther’s Lunchbox. Ms. Clark also coordinates campus donations to local homeless shelters and other charities.
Nominators praised her as a team player with an eternally positive attitude who empowers student staff members.
“No matter how much is on her plate, she will always send the email you need sent, order whatever you need, and be ready to jump in and help,” said presenter Anna Hegland.
