How to get hired for an on-campus job

Is your student thinking about working on campus this fall? Read answers to the two most commonly asked questions below.
What’s the best way to find a job on campus?
Carthage’s job/internship posting board, Handshake, is the best place to find on- and off-campus positions.
To get started, students need to complete (or update) their Handshake profile.
Profiles allow students to describe past work/volunteer experience, clubs/activities, and special projects. Completing a Handshake profile is very similar to completing a resume or LinkedIn profile.
After their Handshake profile is completed, students can see a list of available campus jobs by clicking on the “Jobs” button, then the button marked “All Filters,” and then the “On-Campus” button. They can then review job descriptions and apply with their profile or a resume. Supervisors will contact students to arrange interviews.
Some supervisors receive many applications, so it is very important for students to apply for more than one position. While students might choose to work in more than one position, they cannot work more than 20 hours per week total for all positions.
Additional positions will be posted on a rolling basis. Students should contact their career specialist with additional questions.
What do students need to bring to campus to be able to work?
Students will need to present the proper verification documents such as birth certificate and their driver’s license or passport as part of the I-9 verification process. These documents must be original documents (not copies) and cannot be expired.
