Prof. Tim Eckert publishes second paper about the water solubility of organic molecules
Tim Eckert, professor emeritus of chemistry, is the sole author of an article recently published in the Journal of Chemical Education.
The paper, entitled “Estimating Water Solubilities of Difunctional, Uncharged Organic Molecules,” summarizes the surprising consistency of aqueous solubilities of many organic chemicals, based on their number of carbon atoms. A sequel to his earlier article dealing with monofunctional molecules, it is intended to help instructors and students in organic chemistry labs to design and appreciate the solvent systems used to carry out chemical reactions and isolate products.
This is Prof. Eckert’s fourth publication in refereed journals since his retirement in 2019.
