Cheryl Petersen, a faculty member at Carthage for the past eight years, is leaving the College and continuing her career as director of BSN programs at Milwaukee School of Engineering.

Professor Cheryl Petersen Professor Cheryl Petersen Prof. Petersen’s passion for nursing education led her to a role in academic administration. She served as assistant director of curriculum and assessment in Carthage’s Nursing Department due to her expertise in curricular review, revision, and accreditation. As an educator here at Carthage, she inspired students to provide compassionate care that genuinely impacts the lives of the patients they touch. She has mentored many Carthage nursing students as they developed as nursing scholars, leaders, and clinicians.

Prof. Petersen’s current program of research is focused on the development and evaluation of an application (app) to provide holistic resources for the mind, body, and spirit of patients with cancer.

During her time at Carthage, she received the 2019 and 2020 Carthage College Nursing Department Excellence and Innovation in Academic Teaching Award, as voted upon by undergraduate classes. She was awarded funding through a competitive national process to attend the American Academy of College of Nursing’s Elevating Leadership in Academic Nursing year-long leadership fellowship. She was chosen through a competitive national process as a Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education site evaluator, further honing her expertise in accreditation and assessment. In 2023, she was honored to receive a scholarship from George Washington University to attend a retreat of international experts in spiritual care in Assisi, Italy.

Carthage has been blessed by her expertise and sends well wishes on her academic leadership journey ahead.
