Inktober Challenge: Create inky masterpieces throughout October!
We are calling everyone to participate in a special Carthage Inktober event, open to the entire Carthage community and citizens of the Kenosha/Racine area.
The month-long art challenge, created by artist Jake Parker, is an event that encourages artists of all skills to improve technique and integrate drawing into a daily routine. Throughout the month of October, participants may work with a provided list of daily prompts to draw with ink and post images online.

Hosted by the Carthage Art Department and the H. F. Johnson Gallery of Art, you are cordially invited to this exciting month of invitational workshops, as a first-time extension of the classic Inktober event, in the H. F. Johnson Center for Fine Arts.
Also, don’t forget to join us at the Visual and Performing Arts Lab (VPAL) for a progressive display of original art from Carthage Inktober participants, available for viewing during open gallery hours throughout October. Carthage Inktober participants may bring their original (no reproductions will be displayed) Inktober prompts to be added to the display. Submissions can be made with gallery attendants during open gallery hours at any time throughout the month. All art will be returned to the artist following the event. Remember, it’s all about the ink.
Guidelines
- Participate in as much or as little as you want. This is about having fun, fostering our community, growing our daily art practice, and celebrating all things inky.
- Make artwork using the official prompts. Feel free to use your own inky materials, and consider participating in the free scheduled Carthage workshops and events.
- Post your work to Instagram using the hashtags: #carthageinktober24, #inktober, and #inktober2024.
- In addition to the Instagram event, we’re hosting a progressive display of original art from Carthage Inktober participants in the Visual and Performing Arts Lab (VPAL).
- While participating is its own reward, all participants will qualify to receive an exclusive prize at the end of the event. Participants who submit all 31 original artworks to the gallery will qualify for a premium prize!
