If you are using assignments and the gradebook in eLearning, you may have noticed a couple of features that you want to change.

The default grading scale is based off of a grading scale that does not translate to pluses and minuses. For example, maybe that B should actually be a B plus. To change this, watch this short video to see how it is done, or follow these simple steps:

  1. Click on “Gradebook” on the left side of the page
  2. Click on “Letter Grade Ranges”
  3. Click on “Change to a different grading scale”
  4. Instead of the MyCarthage default grading scale, choose the one that says ABCDF +/-.

Additionally, you need to make sure that students can see their own gradebook. While students will be able to see their grades for each individual assignment, you probably want to make sure that every student also can see their total grade for the class. To change this so students can see their composite score, watch this short video, or follow these simple steps:

  1. Click on “Context Manager” on the left side of the page
  2. Click on “Permissions”
  3. Under the “Role for students,” make sure that “Gradebook” has a checkmark in the box.
  4. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and hit save, scroll down to the bottom of the page, and exit.
