Students: Join us this January on a study tour in political economy, business, and economics to the countries of Southern Africa. The three-week J-Term course, titled Economics and Business in Southern Africa, will last approximately three weeks. Offered by the departments of Economics and Business Administration, the course meets requirements for Global Heritage and the Carthage Symposium.

A second informational meeting will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, in Clausen 107. Please try to visit to learn more about this fascinating adventure!

During the study tour, students will visit three to four countries. Destinations include South Africa, Botswana, Mozambique and/or Namibia and Kingdom of Swaziland.

Southern Africa is a great mix of fast-developing economies, adventure, beauty, and culture certain to fascinate you with its exciting diversity. We’ll study contemporary South Africa, its modern economy, culture nature and post-apartheid democracy.

The fee for the course $3,950, with departure from Chicago. The fee looks pretty high but it is …

  • Less than half of the regular cost for university trips with similar itinerary. (You can google it yourself!)

  • Longer than most trips at approximately three weeks instead of two (because of high cost of airfare it is better to stay longer).

  • Fascinating. We travel a lot within the region, go on wildlife safaris, see dramatic river gorges and majestic mountains, cross the famous Kalahari Desert, and enjoy a first-class five-day cruise in the Indian Ocean.

With a wide variety of spectacular natural environments, exotic wildlife, historic townships, uniquely sophisticated cities, world-renowned cuisine, and very lively and diverse culture, Southern Africa offers a journey of discovery like no other. South Africa, Botswana, and Mozambique are rich in culture, history and nature, and are stunningly beautiful.

We have wonderful liberty-minded friends in South Africa and Botswana, so we can arrange meetings with them as well as with business, government, and community leaders, academics and students. We were there in 2008 and 2013, and had an experience of a lifetime!

Please keep in mind that to reserve your spot on this fascinating expedition, you need to make a non-refundable a deposit of $300 in person, by mail or by credit card at: Business office (Southern Africa J-Term 2014), Carthage College, Kenosha, Wisconsin 53140 and endorse the check to Carthage College. For credit card payment, you should call the Business Office at 262-552-5494 or 262-551-6003. Feel free to invite your friends and relatives on this trip.

Study tours like this are the best investment in your future. You will study and learn a lot and get valuable international experience!
