All Stories

Twenty students have been selected to participate in the 2015 Natural Science Division Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE). These students will work with a faculty mentor for 10 weeks on a new or developing line of research.

Congratulations to the following students!

Mathematics

  • Kerry Stapf ’17, a chemistry major; Catherine Northrup ’17, a computer science major; and Elisabeth Rutter ’17, a mathematics and chemistry major will work with Prof. Haley Yaple on the project “Dynamics of Temporal Networks.”
  • Stephen Janke ’16, a physics major; Brian Kragh ’16, a mathematics major; Nathaniel Lee ’18, a physics major; and Rachel Post ’16, a mathematics and criminal justice major, will work with Prof. Erlan Wheeler on the “NASA/WSGC UAV Project.”

Chemistry

  • Chemistry majors Jordan Ingle ’17, Tyler Witzleb ’16, and Burgonye Hughes ’16 will work with Prof. Kevin Morris on the project “NSF Texas A&M Partnership.”
  • Chemistry majors Kendall Craig ’17 and Mikaela McGovern ’16 will work with Prof. David Brownhollan on the project “Surfactants with Reversible Linkers for Micelle-Facilitated Organic Synthesis.”
  • Elizabeth Allen ’16, a biology and neuroscience major; Janet Haro ’18, a chemistry major; and Perrin Schupbach ’18, a biology major, will work with Prof. Janice Pellino on the project “Engineering a sold-surface lead biosensor in bacteria.”

Physics

  • Michael Merritt ’17, a physics and mathematics major, will work with Prof. Julie Dahlstrom on the project “Investigating Diffuse Interstellar Band Absorption in the Reflection Nebula Surrounding HD 38087.”
  • Stephanie Bradshaw ’16, a geography and earth science major, will work with Prof. Brant Carlson on the “NASA/WSGC Research Fellowship: CAERENET.”
  • Physics majors Tessa Rundle ’16 and Benjamin Tillema ’18 will work with Prof. Kevin Crosby on the “NASA Parabolic Flight Campaign.”

Environmental Science

  • Environmental science major Banni Hazael Lopez Zavala ’16 will work with Prof. Sarah Rubinfeld on “The Environmental Fate of Triclosan.”
