The Japanese program of the Carthage Modern Languages Department would like to congratulate Jacob Werschey on his winning of the University Recommendation Japanese Government Scholarship! The scholarship will aid him in his yearlong study abroad experience at Tokyo Gakugei University, where he will be further his studies of the Japanese language. The scholarship is distributed by the Japanese Ministry of Education and is awarded to those showing exceptional skill in Japanese.

Jacob is attending Tokyo Gakugei from Fall 2013 to Spring 2014, and will return to Carthage in Fall 2014 to complete his degree in Japanese and Asian Studies. Though he came in to school undecided, Japanese was always his favorite class, making his major an easy choice.

“Japanese was my favorite class right off the bat,” Jacob said. “I learned a lot and met a lot of cool people there.”

Good luck in Tokyo, Werschey-san!
