All Stories

Not only does Hedberg Library have a variety of DVDs for checkout, they also have online video resources. Each week, they will feature three suggested films and tell you how, and where you can get them.

This week, Tyler Prochnow decided to choose some of his favorite sports movies. Even if you aren’t a die hard sports fans these movies have terrific stories on and off the playing surface.

A League of Their Own (1992)

One of my absolute favorite sports movies with some unexpected stars (Tom Hanks,  Madonna, and Rosie O’Donnell). This comedy follows the rise and fall of the women’s professional baseball league during World War II. Washed up player turned coach, Tom Hanks, has no clue how to lead this group of women, which brings him to say my favorite line of the whole movie, “There’s no crying in baseball.” You will never guess where this true story happened? Right in our own backyard with teams including the Racine Belles, Kenosha Comets, and Rockford Peaches.

Murderball (2005)

Inspirational documentary of wheelchair rugby. The story follows teams on their way to the 2004 Paralympic games. It certainly gives a inspirational and real look into a little known sport. One of the best unknown sports movies!

Hoosiers (2000)

Ultimate underdog story of a small Indiana high school basketball team that takes on the big schools. Follow the ups and downs and emotional turns this team takes in this true story from the 1950s.

Enjoy the movies!
